30.06.2020

Today the finishing touches to the engine room casing were applied, while volunteers continued work on sealing the decks. Down below volunteers continued to mop out the leaks from the dining saloon. Our trustee and director, Douglas Naysmith, attended to keep an eye on operations, while PAT testing was taking place in the lower bar.

On Tuesday 7th July 2020 our new compressor will be delivered. Since the lockdown, it has been kindly stored at the home residence of a long-term volunteer and former trustee.

23.06.2020

Last Friday saw a deluge of rain, which unfortunately resulted in all the decks being flooded. However, our band of volunteers did a marvellous job of mopping and drying the ship out.

Elsewhere, our annual PAT testing is taking place on all portable electrical equipment. The refurbishment of the lighting in the Dining Saloon is in progress, and an excellent job has been undertaken on repacking the filling valves to the Fuel Oil storage tanks.

Finally, on Monday the BBC were on board to film for the evenings Points West programme, as part of Balmoral’s education programme to mark Windrush Day.

Provisions of sanitisers, masks and gloves continue to be strategically placed all around the vessel. Today the Flywheel cover on the starboard generator has been secured, and the Windlass Rheostat has now been successfully serviced. We ran the emergency fire pump on test, and the capstan was also ran on test. Down below, volunteers cleaned the bilges and passenger lounges, while others up top continued to seal the decks.

The Return to Balmoral

Following Government guidance, we took the decision to slip our mooring lines, and return in a limited number to Balmoral. Working in a safe environment, the team decided to take up some key tasks that perhaps couldn’t be achieved until today.
